Privacy Policy
What Skillselion collects, why, the legal basis for it, and the choices and rights you have. Last updated June 9, 2026.
The data controller
Skillselion is an independent directory of AI-coding tools. For the personal data described here we are the data controller. You can reach us about privacy at info@skillselion.com. We aim to collect as little as possible and we do not sell your personal information.
Information and the legal basis for each use
- Account details - your email and a securely hashed password, or your GitHub identity if you sign in with GitHub. Basis: performance of our contract with you (to provide your account).
- Content you submit - tool submissions, votes, comments, feedback, and partner enquiries. Basis: contract and our legitimate interest in running and moderating the directory.
- Analytics - privacy-respecting, self-hosted measurement of page views and listing click-throughs, used in aggregate. Basis: your consent (see Cookies below; it does not run until you allow it).
- Newsletter - your email, only if you subscribe and then confirm via the double opt-in link we email you. Basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any issue or our unsubscribe page.
- Payments - for partner placements, processed by Stripe; we receive payment metadata, not your full card number. Basis: contract and our legal obligations (e.g. tax records).
- Security & abuse logs - limited technical logs to keep the service safe. Basis: our legitimate interest in security.
You choose - and we honour Global Privacy Control
Strictly-necessary cookies (keeping you signed in, security, and remembering your cookie choice) are always on. Analytics and any other non-essential technologies load only after you opt in. You can change or withdraw your choice any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer, and we honour the Global Privacy Control browser signal as an opt-out. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
Only the providers needed to run Skillselion
We share data only with the service providers that operate Skillselion - Stripe (payments), GitHub (sign-in), our email/newsletter provider, and our hosting provider - each under a data-processing agreement and only as much as each needs. Our analytics is self-hosted and not shared with third-party advertising networks. We may disclose information where required by law. We do not sell your personal information.
When data leaves your region
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the EEA or UK we rely on an appropriate safeguard - an adequacy decision, Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK Addendum), or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework - to protect it.
We keep data only as long as needed
We retain account data while your account is active and for a limited period after a deletion request; analytics is kept in minimised, aggregate form; logs are rotated. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.
Access, correct, delete, export - and complain
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export (port), restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. If you have an account you can export or delete your data instantly from your account page. Otherwise, email info@skillselion.com - we respond within one month, and you never need an account to ask. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter from any issue or the unsubscribe page. If your jurisdiction has a data-protection authority (for example in the EEA, UK, or India) you also have the right to lodge a complaint with it.
For users 18 and older
Skillselion is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from, or direct advertising or profiling at, children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
How we protect data
We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, strong password hashing, access controls, admin multi-factor authentication, and logging, and we maintain a breach-response process. No method is perfectly secure. We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you by solely automated means.
Questions about your data
We may update this policy and will change the date above; we will flag material changes. For any question about this policy or how your data is handled, reach us at info@skillselion.com.
