Brainstorm Ideas Existing
Run continuous-discovery ideation on an existing product with PM, Designer, and Engineer lenses, then narrow to the top five ideas.
Overview
Brainstorm Ideas (Existing) is an agent skill most often used in Idea (also Validate, Build) that runs PM, Designer, and Engineer ideation for a live product and prioritizes the best five solutions.

- Tri-view ideation: 5 ideas each from Product Manager, Designer, and Engineer perspectives
- Frames work with Product Trio and Opportunity Solution Tree (Teresa Torres) practices
- Step 1 confirms product, objective, segment, and outcomes before generating ideas
- Ingests user files (research, opportunity trees, personas) and optional product URL via web search
- Prioritizes down to the best five ideas after multi-perspective generation
- 5 ideas per perspective (PM, Designer, Engineer)
- 15 ideas generated before prioritization
- Top 5 ideas selected after multi-perspective ideation
Adoption & trust: 1.1k installs on skills.sh; 12.3k GitHub stars; 2/3 security scanners passed (skills.sh audits).
What problem does it solve?
You have an existing product and a fuzzy opportunity, but your feature ideas are one-sided and never get prioritized as a trio.
Who is it for?
Indie SaaS or content builders doing continuous discovery on a shipping product with a clear objective and segment in mind.
Skip if: Greenfield-only brainstorming with no product context, or teams that already have an approved spec and only need implementation tasks.
When should I use this skill?
Generating new feature ideas for an existing product, brainstorming solutions for an identified opportunity, or ideating with a product trio.
What do I get? / Deliverables
You get fifteen role-diverse ideas narrowed to five prioritized directions ready for validation experiments or a written plan.
- Fifteen tri-perspective ideas
- Prioritized list of five candidate solutions
- Clarified opportunity summary

Journey fit
Spans multiple journey phases - primary shelf plus alternate fits below.
Continuous product discovery for an existing offering starts in Idea when you are still surfacing opportunities and solution directions before validation experiments. Discover is the canonical shelf for multi-perspective ideation tied to opportunity trees and trio collaboration, not a single implementation task.
Where it fits
Map solution branches under one opportunity node after reading uploaded persona and research files.
Use web search on your product URL to align ideation with how the market already positions the offering.
Turn the top five ideas into experiment-ready solution hypotheses before prototyping.
Refresh the backlog with engineer-origin concepts called out explicitly in the Engineer perspective pass.
Brainstorm retention or activation features once growth data surfaces a new segment-specific opportunity.
How it compares
Use instead of unstructured chat brainstorming when you want Teresa Torres–style trio lenses and a fixed top-five cut.
Common Questions / FAQ
Who is brainstorm-ideas-existing for?
Solo builders and small product trios (PM, design, engineering hats on one person or a tiny team) who own an existing product and need disciplined discovery ideation.
When should I use brainstorm-ideas-existing?
In Idea/discover when mapping opportunities on an existing product; in Validate/scope when turning an opportunity into solution options; in Build/pm when backlog grooming needs fresh, role-balanced feature concepts before you commit roadmap slots.
Is brainstorm-ideas-existing safe to install?
Review the Security Audits panel on this Prism page for install risk and file integrity; the skill may trigger web search for product URLs, so treat external fetches like any network-capable skill.

## Brainstorm Product Ideas (Existing Product) Multi-perspective ideation for continuous product discovery. Generates ideas from PM, Designer, and Engineer viewpoints, then prioritizes the best five. ### Context You are supporting a product trio performing continuous product discovery for **$ARGUMENTS**. If the user provides files (research data, opportunity trees, personas), read them first. If they mention a product URL, use web search to understand the product. ### Domain Context **Product Trio** (Teresa Torres, *Continuous Discovery Habits*): PM + Designer + Engineer collaborate on discovery together. "Best ideas often come from engineers." Discovery is not linear — loop back if experiments fail. Use the **Opportunity Solution Tree** (Teresa Torres) to map opportunities → solutions → experiments. ### Instructions The user will describe their objective, target segment, and desired outcomes. Work through these steps: 1. **Understand the opportunity**: Confirm the product, objective, market segment, and desired outcomes. Ask for clarification if anything is ambiguous. 2. **Ideate from three perspectives** — generate 5 ideas each from: - **Product Manager**: Focus on business value, strategic alignment, and customer impact - **Product Designer**: Focus on user experience, usability, and delight - **Software Engineer**: Focus on technical possibilities, data leverage, and scalable solutions 3. **Prioritize the top 5 ideas** across all perspectives based on: - Strategic alignment with the stated objective - Potential impact on desired outcomes - Feasibility and effort required - Differentiation from existing solutions 4. **For each prioritized idea**, provide: - A clear name and one-sentence description - Why it was selected (reasoning) - Key assumptions to validate Think step by step. Present ideas in a clear, structured format. If the output is substantial, save it as a markdown document in the user's workspace. --- ### Further Reading - [What Is Product Discovery?
