Some packages use browser APIs (window, document, localStorage) and fail in Server Components.

Migrating from Webpack to Turbopack
Turbopack has been stable for next dev since Next.js 15 (opt-in via --turbo) and became the default bundler for both next dev and next build in Next.js 16. If you have custom webpack config, migrate to Turbopack-compatible alternatives:

Use Route Handlers when you need a REST API.

Next.js DevTools MCP (Dev Server)
Next.js 16+ ships a built-in MCP endpoint at /_next/mcp in the dev server for AI-assisted debugging. Requires Next.js 16 or above.
Recommended setup: next-devtools-mcp
The official, documented way is to add the next-devtools-mcp package to your project's .mcp.json. It auto-discovers and forwards to the running dev server (works across multiple instances/ports):

Calling the raw endpoint directly (advanced)
You can also hit the underlying /_next/mcp endpoint yourself. This is not the documented path but is useful for scripting.
Important: Find the actual port of the running Next.js dev server (check terminal output or package.json scripts). Don't assume port 3000.

Every parallel route slot MUST have a `default.tsx`. In Next.js 16 this is enforced at build time: a missing default.js now fails the build (in earlier versions it produced a runtime 404 on hard navigation).

In a prerendered (static) route, calling useSearchParams makes the Client Component tree up to the nearest Suspense boundary client-side rendered. Without a boundary, a production build fails with the Missing Suspense boundary with useSearchParams error.
Dev caveat: routes render on-demand in dev, so useSearchParams doesn'tsuspend and may appear to work without Suspense — the failure only shows upin a production build.

If you intend the route to be dynamic anyway, call `connection()` in a Server Component before rendering the hook's consumer. This opts the subtree out of prerendering, so no Suspense boundary is needed:
